Richmond Zine Fest, October 11

The 2008 Richmond Zine Fest will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2008, from 11am to 5pm at the Gay Community Center of Richmond, at 1407 Sherwood Ave. The event is free to the public. There will also be free coffee on hand, and (vegan) food will be available for purchase at a small price.

The 2007 Richmond Zine Fest featured 45 vendors from all over Virginia and the US, two workshops, and readings by noted zinesters Ariel Gore and China Martens. Over 250 people attended last years zine fest, which was spread out on two locations on the 1600 block of West Broad Street.

Graphic Artist Opportunity

Virginia Beach Advertising agency is looking for an student who would be interested in working as a production artist on various projects. Applicant should be able to demonstrate capacities with mainstream industry software programs (Adobe Creative Suite) for print media or web media communications and preferably both. This is a part time position, preferably 2 days a week (16 hours). This is not a paid internship and must be cleared with Kenneth FitzGerald for possible Internship class credit. Graphic Artist Production Opportunity

Armin Vit lecture July 10

Born and raised in Mexico City, Armin Vit is a graphic designer and writer now living in Brooklyn, New York. He has come to prominence by co-founding the graphic design blog Speak Up. In the years since, the “Under Consideration” empire has expanded to the associated sites The Design Encyclopedia, Brand New, and Quipsologies. Vit has also written for AIGA’s VOICE, Emigre, Eye, Creative Review, HOW, and STEP magazines, and lectured on topics ranging from typography to branding from San Diego to Berlin. After a stint working for Michael Bierut at Pentagram, he now runs Under Consideration’s Department of Design.
